RECUENTO TARDÍO DE LA CRÓNICA QUE QUISO SER: Paciente Ísola, 7ma entrega

Rey Andujar — Sat, 07/31/2010 - 09:11

okay, perdón, fue sin, querer.

Calamaro

Don’t rip that DVD yet: MGE UPS Systems and the DMCA holding by the 5th Circuit

Jean Vidal — Fri, 07/30/2010 - 07:59

Less than a week ago, the Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit handed down its decision in MGE UPS Systems v. GE Consumer, et al. (Case 08-10521). At the heart of the case is whether or not GE was liable under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) for circumventing (i.e. hacking) MGE’s security wall used by their hardware key. In plain English, MGE placed their software behind a firewall of sorts that could only be accessed if the user had the “right key”. GE admitted that they “hacked the key” in order to access the software. Thus, MGE claimed that GE’s “hack” constituted a DMCA violation.

Wait, DMCA -what?

El Poder de la Educación Social

Magis Foundation — Thu, 07/29/2010 - 16:34

Next Time I’ll Have My Popcorn Without Salt

Number 3 — Thu, 07/29/2010 - 13:30

Sometimes it is necessary for someone to take a hit for the team.  This time it was my turn, since even my movie companion, Al Carbon, fell soundly asleep.  Watching Salt was a thoroughly painful experience that included a ridiculous plot, terrible Russian accents, dull action sequences, stilted dialogue, and characters with the depth of cardboard cutouts.

The movie is so bad that any attempt at “saving” it for the readers by giving warnings about spoilers should be construed as an explicit disregard for said readers’ wellbeing.  Don’t watch this movie.  Don’t let my sacrifice go to waste.  These warnings should be enough to stop you.  However, in case I have not dissuaded you from harming yourself, I will continue.

Addiction: Faces, Demons and Conquerors

Alex — Thu, 07/29/2010 - 11:59

It’s an everyday thing: On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, starlet’s, politicians, athletes, etc, throw the word around. When behavior is erratic, when we’re shocked, when we’re in mourning the word finds its way in: addiction. The term seems to have become a “get out of jail free card” if you will, and quite frankly I fear the term’s over usage causes a bit of desensitization of the masses (It might even save Mel from his latest tirade). Addiction is something very real.

When the Zombies Attack John Cusack Is Your Man!

Chele — Wed, 07/28/2010 - 01:12

The Zombie apocalypse is coming. You think I’m joking? I kid you not, it is. With the way science is attempting and succeeding at genetic manipulation and the creation of biochemical weapons, it’s only a matter of time until zombies stop being an imaginary foe and come to hunt us down. They have been spotted in places as remote and unimportant as Pittsburgh.

Pablo’s Kitchen: Eggs

pabloiv — Tue, 07/27/2010 - 18:58

As a single man, in his late twenties, who uses his cooking ability as part of his repertoire; I’ve cooked a lot of eggs. Although most of the times I get asked for over-easy  or scrambled, some of my more epicurious exes have asked for slightly more exotic preparations that I’ve had to learn to master over the years. Below you’ll find my top 5 favorite preparations of eggs.

Is lying in order to have sex rape?

Jean Vidal — Mon, 07/26/2010 - 11:32

In the US and Puerto Rico, as well as many western countries, people lie in order to have sex. They say they are famous or rich, younger or older (than they really are), they say they are from Italy (when really they are from Ohio), or they say “I’m single” when really, they are engaged. The other party, knowing this, consents to having sex with the “Lying Lover.” In some cases, the “victim” has sex solely because of the lie told (ie. it made having sex with the Lying Lover so attractive it was worthwhile.) However... Is this rape? Israel seems to think so.

Henri Langlois said: A film without sound is not worth making.

Maya West — Sun, 07/25/2010 - 10:18

Henri Langlois’ quote at first seems so outrageously absolute, so outright, so unquestionable, that one might think it trivial if it weren’t stated by such an authority in film. But who is Henri Langlois?

New York’s Hall of Fame Weekend

R.S. Sports Report — Sun, 07/25/2010 - 09:00

In the next few days, one of Major League Baseball’s most prestigious clubs will be adding another member to its incredibly short list. Yet, even as the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown prepares to open its doors to the great Andre Dawson, his career highlights should be taking a backseat to one another bullet point on the Hall of Fame résumé of Alex Rodríguez.

Vejigante come coco, toco, toco, toco, toco

Bea — Sat, 07/24/2010 - 17:46
